College this week is flying by and I'm learning so much!  This week we are working on our 35m film and have had the chance to go out and get 36 frames and 12 images using prospective as our topic... I managed to get into the local church to get some of my photographs and then out and about the campus.  Today we have been processing our film and discovering how to measure out our dev, stop & Mix and also getting the hang of our timings!

My home made pinhole camera! Yesterday I popped into the 99p store and got two tins so that I can place two pin hole cameras outside for a couple of days to see what they come out like.... I had spoken to a concierge at Beetham Tower, Liverpool to see if I could have access to the roof and get a view over the Liver Buildings however there was know where I could secure it too! Gutted..... I'm going to tape one to the back of my shed as there is nothing at the back of my house only trees and try and get one hidden in Everton Park to get a skyline view of Liverpool!

To make my Pinholes I have got two coin collecting tins and then cut the tops of them using a can opener, I have then taped over the edge so that I don't cut my hand ;-0 I have then turned the can upside down and got a piece of card that fits around the bottom and cut slots into it that will then fold into the can.  Then I have taped the card around and pushed the slots inside, I've then added a coaster to the top to make the lid and taped this to the card so that it fits snug with no light getting in!  I just need to now put my pin hole in and make my pinhole cover and I'm off!

I will leave the cameras out today and take them down again on Monday Morning! Hope they work & I hope no one takes mine down out of the park ha!

My attempt at Pinhole images...

This week we have been working on pinhole in the dark room. My home made Pinhole camera had to be adjusted after the first couple of attempts as the pin hole was too large and all of my images where coming out black! I have attached some of my pinhole images to show what happened and why! In the end I was happy with a couple of them but not all :(

One the day of the pinhole it was really bright morning therefore I was having to reduce the exposure time from 25 seconds to around 10-15 seconds to try and get a better pinhole.

In the 1st pinhole  I have taken a picture of my shoes I took them off and placed them on the floor to try and get the reflection of the same old boot! As you can see from some of the other pinhole I have taken they have not turned out great.... Too much exposure and the fact that my pin hole was too big letting in too much light.  The last image is of the hand rails at the side of the college building again  the object was to get the reflection in the image with the double rails.  This has been good practise even thou i wasn't happy with how many of the turned out!

I have just found some more recent pinhole images that have been showed at the London festival of photography this summer by various artists. It good to see what other photographers are taking photograms off and where/ what angle etc..

below are some of the pinholes they have been displaying this summer.

Back on to pinhole cameras today & I seem to be alot better now that my camera has been fixed! The pin hole was to large and I wasnt getting enough light exposure! Today has been better and I am pleased with the results so far on wards & upwards!... :-)

Les Rudnick September 16, 2005 - Just had a look at some of Les Rudnicks portfolio and found he used crystal glasses in the photograms to produce a sense of reflections! Beautiful image!?!? I might bring some small glasses/ crystal with me tomorrow and some other objects like earrings etc to see what reflections I can get from them and hopefully get some great pictures! Les Rudnick started producing black & white images at the young age of 12 and is fascinated with creating images using only light that interacts with objects.

Suspended Crystal - Les Rudnick

The suspended crystal is so bright and the relections have a lighter shade making the patern of them stand out more.

Ste our class teacher, has instructed our group to look on the world wide web at photograms and artists..... I initially googled photograms 1970's seen as thou I'm an old foogie born in this era I thought I would have a look to see who was producing images around this time.... However I stumbled across some interesting images from David Fried!

Way of words

The circular balls are bright and stand out calming the madness around them, they look like they are 3d coming out towards you! Calm & madness and one image

This photogram of the grasshopper is bright and I'm not sure if it was standing up or lying down when it was taken? The centre of the photogram almost illuminates the rest of the page its so bright!

The image below is tranquil and reflective moving the eye is drawn all over the photogram from the centre to the top and the bottom following the waves. The contrast of the colour from dark to light with the horizon in the centre behind the ball shape makes you look behind the ball to see what's there. I'm not sure how the photographer has got the reflection lifting up from the circular shape and running through it... Its making me think more about the image and how I look at it!

Welcome to my four week project! The introduction to my four week challenge involves Materials, Techniques & Processes.....

Throughout this process I will have the opportunity to provide evidence against the work I have done and produced! Good :-) Bad :-( oh and the Ugly..........
